Tales of the Alhambra

Centrum Gallery, Oregon College of Art and Craft, Portland OR, 2011

Several years ago while travelling, I visited the Alhambra palace in southern Spain on a stormy afternoon. There, within the quiet walls and garden pavilions, I found refuge from the rain, wind and big-city chaos of Granada. Even the wind-stirred surfaces of the pools and fountains reflected peace and calm. Islamic gardens are contained, intimate spaces designed to provide protection from harsh environments, and I explored these themes in my paintings.
