Blue Fires

Caldera ~ Lisa Onstad, 2016
Acrylic on panel, 40 x 44 inches

I’m excited to hang my first solo show at Waterstone Gallery, in our new space at 124 NW 9th. The clean white walls will provide the perfect backdrop to my colorful new collection of work –  Blue Fires. These painting were inspired by a trip I took with my family to Nicaragua, where I was mesmerized by a dramatic landscape – full of vibrant colors and patterns.

My artist book, In This Land of Lakes and Volcanoes is included in the exhibition Wanderlust at 23 Sandy Gallery. As always, I was inspired by gallery owner and book artist Laura Russell’s call to artists to explore the theme of wanderlust. Using my recent trip to Nicaragua as inspiration, I explored themes of  passion, longing and connection in this latest work.

I am also excited to share that I will be represented by 23 Sandy Gallery, a fine arts gallery specializing in book and paper arts. You’ll find my one-of-a-kind and small edition book works here.

This month I travelled to the Bay Area and saw two inspirational shows – J.M.W Turner at San Francisco’s DeYoung museum and an exhibit of Richard Diebenkorn’s sketchbooks at the Stanford University’s Cantor Art Center. From Turner to Diebenkorn, I covered a span of 131 years in a 45 minute car ride.  However, some shared aspects of their work could link them as contemporaries.

Hello Again!

It’s been over a year since my last blog post…a year filled with art adventures, studio days and new work. I’m hoping to post some catch-up stories, but I have some news that can’t wait! I am very pleased to announce that I have joined Waterstone, an artist run gallery located in Portland’s Pearl District. The gallery has just moved to a larger space and I am looking  forward to painting BIG.
